Usages of 4D simulation in collaborative design: a case study

22 02 2013

In literature 4D is primarily dedicated to the constructability analyses conducted during the pre-construction stage. It is also adapted to monitoring the progress of work. In short, 4D makes it possible to check that building elements can be built/assembled within the spatial and time constraints of the construction project.

In parallel researchers more and more attemps to understand the added-value of 4D CAD in design stage. We conducted a case study aiming at implementing a 4D model during the "advanced design" stage of a construction project.

The results are reported in a short article published on Tudor's website: in french and in english.

4D simulation for the teaching of high-rise structures principles

12 02 2013
4D simulations are usually used to assess constructibility of construction projects in preconstruction stage, i.e. when the design project is in its last developments. However alternative usages of 4D models can be envisaged.
In the context of a project management master course at University of Liège, architects and construction engineers are developing 4D models for the understanding of high-rise structural principles as well as for the analysis of the construction processes.
Some results are provided in the following movie.
